BrakeStuff – The Story Behind It

potrait

The company BrakeStuff was founded in 2007 by Dipl.-Ing. Torsten Guba. He comes from the triathlon scene, where he was active for several years. Due to time constraints, he ended his triathlon career in 2003 and has since spent his time mainly on the road bike, mountain bike, or on foot.

The idea for BrakeStuff emerged from a lack of spare parts. When he couldn’t find a suitable 4-bolt brake disc for the Coda hubs on his Cannondale bike from the year 2000, he simply designed and manufactured one himself. The first models were made from standard stainless steel and produced without additional treatments such as heat processing. Together with a good friend, the first design was created – the “Pin Up” brake disc. Initially, it was sold only to friends. But demand for this and other brake discs grew so rapidly that the decision was made to officially found BrakeStuff.
The name combines “Brake” and “Stuff” – meaning various “brake stuff”: brake discs, cantilever mounts for V-brakes and U-brakes, disc shims/spacers for the entire bike community.

Today, BrakeStuff offers compatible brake discs for all common standards in various designs and sizes. There are also options for older models with 3-bolt mounts from RockShox/AMP Research and 4-bolt mounts from Coda and Formula. You can find the full product range in the online shop.

BrakeStuff has become particularly specialized in developing custom brake discs that can be personalized with a logo, link, name, and more. In collaboration with well-known companies in the bike industry – such as Electrolyte E-Bikes, Specialized, and Continental – prototypes are developed to conduct initial tests for braking performance, stability, and wear. This cooperation can extend all the way to full development and series readiness of a brake disc – a service offered by only a handful of companies worldwide.
BrakeStuff also actively supports teams in the Formula Student Cup by assisting with the development and production of brake discs for their vehicles. In 2020 alone, brake discs were manufactured for eleven teams.

Some of the MTB brake discs are offered by manufacturers such as Rohloff, Schindelhauer Bikes, Poison Bikes, and Specialized as recommended accessories or special tuning parts for their products. This highlights the high quality of the brake discs.

Since 2019, BrakeStuff has offered the world’s only online brake disc configurator, allowing anyone to design their own custom brake disc.

In spring 2025, the shop was temporarily closed and business activities were paused – though, as it turned out, only for a short time.

When it seemed that the chapter of BrakeStuff was coming to a close, it quickly became clear: this project deserved a future.

“It feels good to continue my life’s work together with a team that is locally rooted and full of genuine passion. Sometimes life brings coincidences that simply fit,” says Torsten Guba.

We are a team of cycling enthusiasts and experienced technicians, and we will carry the BrakeStuff brand forward with expertise, dedication, and energy. Our motivation is to continuously evolve the product range with new ideas and innovations.

BrakeStuff will continue to stand for excellent quality, precise manufacturing, reliable performance on the bike, and designs created with passion.

On November 21, 2025, the time had finally come: our online shop went live again.
